Pregnancy Journal...#1

We all laid down to go to sleep about 5:00am.  I actually was able to sleep for 1 hour.  By 6:00am, I was up.  Contractions were coming every 5-7 minutes (mom was timing) Kevin got up around 10:00am.  Deb, mom, "Ag2", and I went for a walk up to the IGA in the afternoon to get some popsicles and food.  When we got back Deb and I played cards for awhile.  Mom and Kevin took a nap and watched TV.  Later, Deb and "Ag2" took a nap while mom timed.  Around 6:00pm, we headed back to the hospital.  They checked my cervix and my water broke.  They gave me a shot of Nubian as soon as I got in my room and they ran an IV into my arm.  they ended up giving me another shot of Nubian until the anesthesiologist could come and give me an epidural (I ended up getting 3 doses of that before it was all over with).  I had a wonderful nurse who stuck beside me throughout the whole time I was in Labor.  At one point the only people awake in the room were me and the nurse.  Kevin, my mom, and Kevin's mom were all sleeping in the room and Debbie and "Ag2" were sleeping in the waiting room.

Pregnancy Journal...#1

I've been off work since last week.  Mom came over on Tuesday (July 1) and took me to the doctors office and helped me get the baby's rooms et up.  Today I've felt a little pain in my stomach.  it's not too bad, but I don't know if this is labor or not.  I called Kevin...actually paged him (he's golfing tonight).  I told him not to take too long and come home right after he's done golfing.

Pains are getting harder.  We decided to go to the hospital around 6pm.  So we called my mom and Kevin's mom to let them know we were heading to the hospital.  When we got there, the nurse checked me out and said that my contractions weren't strong enough to stay.  She suggest we walk for an hour and get checked again.  So we did, still not enough!  The nurse gave me some sleeping pills and told me if this was Braxton Hicks, these pills would stop the contractions.  I don't understand why they did that, because I'm already a week late.  By the time my mom and Kevin's mom go to the hospital, we were on our way out.  Kevin's mom told us not to call her until we were admitted to the hospital.  We went home.  About 10pm or so (we got home at about 8:30-9:00) the contractions were getting pretty bad.  I wasn't able to sleep (even though I had taken those sleeping pills).  Oh, I forgot they did give me the option of being induced when I was there, but I really didn't want  to be induced since I've been told that when your induced, your labor is harder.

Kevin and I decided to go back to the hospital.  Before we left, Kevin called my mom to let her know we were heading back to the hospital.  When I got there they checked my cervix again and asked me if I wanted to be induced since my doctor wasn't going to be on call (he would be on vacation).  I said that I really didn't want to do that, so the nurse gave me a shot for pain and sent me home again.  (by this time I was beginning to feel stupid because they kept sending me home).  We met my mom and sister at the front door.  They decided to stay overnight at our place.

Pregnancy Journal...#1

Debbie, Liz, and my friend Kim threw me a shower today.  They handed out a roll of toilet paper and told everyone to take some, because the church was about out of toilet paper...actually, for every square they had to tell something about themselves.  They also did the string game.  It was a little better here since some of them would only go around 1 1/2 times.  My friend from Koinonia won that one.  I again got a lot of gifts (look in the baby book).

Pregnancy Journal...#1

Kevin's cousin wanted to throw a baby shower for us since Kevin didn't have any sisters.  Since Debbie wanted to throw me a shower also, I decided to break them up...at Kevin's cousin's house I invited Kevin's side of the family and friends.  I will invite my side of the family and church friends to the other one.

My first shower (Kevin's cousin's house) was today at 2 pm.  They started by playing games...The first game they had me stand up and turn around so everyone could see how big I was.  Then they passed around a string and everyone cut a piece of string to see who could get the closest to the actual size of my waist.  How embarrassing!!  Some of the strings could have went around me at least 2 times!  My friend from HS won!  The 2nd game they played, they brought out a clothes line with clothes on it.  (You could tell everyone was trying to remember what was on the clothes line)  They then asked everyone to guess how long the line was (12'8").  Quite comical when everyone realized they weren't going to be writing down' everything hanging on the line!  I got many many gifts...to see them you will have to look in the baby book.

Pregnancy Journal...#1

Well, I had the glucose screening done.  My level of sugar was a little high, so I had to go to the lab to have a 3 hour test done (Kevin went with me).  It took all morning!  Kevin went to work afterward, I stayed home the rest of the day and slept.  About 1 week after the glucose screening, I started getting sharp pains in my upper back.  One attack got so bad that I went home from work.  The attach made me sick.  Kevin was so worried, he called Dr. Guy.  He said that he thought it was gall stones.  He also told me to come in the next morning so he could do an ultrasound on my gall bladder.  He saw something in my gall bladder and he said that he hoped that I would be able to pass them.  He gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 (with codine) to take for the pain.  I had only a small attack since.  I also need to stay away from greasy foods.  The doctor has me coming in every 3 weeks now, after my next visit, I will be going every week!

I feel so rushed right now.  Since there isn't much time left, we purchased a crib (which wil convert to a toddler bed), a play pen, a changing table, a looney toons diaper bag, a carrier and a few small items.  My mom has bought us a comforter (Looney Toons babies), a bumper pad, a small (baby Looney Toons) diaper bag, a thing of playtex nurser bottles, bags to go with the bottles.  Kevin's mom bought a car seat, a thing of playtex nurser bottles, and small toys.  A lot of this was bought at the Evenflo sale.  Boy was that something...take about 100 pregnant women and put them all in the same building...that alone is bad, but on to p of that there's not a whole lot of certain products, first come first serve.  Don't ever want to do that again!!!

8th Month

30" long; 21 pounds
You scoot around on your stomach now.  You like to jump up and down in the Super Saucer.  you can wave "hi" and "bye".  You went to Trader's World (Flea Market) and slept the whole time.  You have begun to play shy and cry whenever mommy and daddy leave for a few minutes, (however, you don't cry when I drop you off at the babysitter's house in the morning).  You got another hair cut, it made you look a lot older.  And boy do you laugh!  Daddy started looking for a new job.  (not hard, but working with a headhunter)  You had to get your left eye "probed".  You've had a problem with your eye matting up since you were born.  The Dr. said that there was a blockage in your tear duct.  When he examined you, he told us you had 20/20 vision.

Pregnancy Journal...#1

Kevin and I went to the doctor's office today for an ultrasound.  They videotaped the whole thing.  Even though the baby didn't cooperate with the ultrasound tech.  We did find out that we are having a BOY!!  (Even if we didn't want to know, it would have been very difficult for the tech to hide what we saw). She also said that everything looks healthy and if there were any problems Dr. Guy would be calling before my next visit to the doctors.  My next appointment is when they do that 1 hour glucose screening (I'm really NOT looking forward to this!!)

Pregnancy Journal...#1

For the past couple of weeks, I "thought" I felt the baby move inside me, however, today I really felt the baby move!!  Oh what a wonderful feeling!  I'm so excited!  Last night, the Lord reminded me of my accident I was in when i was 16.  I had a broken leg, at the hospital, they did a lot of x-rays on me.  A couple of the nurses told me that I may never be able to have a child because of all the x-rays.  i didn't think much of it then.  A couple of years ago (1995) in the spring, our church had a hispanic minister (who didn't speak english...just broken english).  He asked me if I was wanting a child.  Of course I said yes.  He prayed for me and told me (as best he could) that it wasn't my fault I couldn't have a baby.  The Lord healed me that day!  Kevin and i didn't start trying to have a child until June 1996,  It only took 3 months (well really 2.5 months).  I then realized that this child is a miracle from God!  Had the Lord not healed me, I would not be expecting in June 1997!

Pregnancy Journal...#1

Today I did some regular exercises.  I guess something is better than nothing!  My boss (who lives around the corner) said that she would walk with me when the weather gets better.

Oh how emotional I've been!  I've had some good days, and some not some good days.  I'm still worried about having this baby, but what can I do now?  Nothing!  I'm scared and worried that I'm not going to be able to go through labor.  Not to mention taking care of a baby.  The doctor told me that since my stomach was so hard, I may begin experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions.  I just keep praying for a health baby.  What am I having?  I'm not sure yet, but I "feel" like I'm having a boy.

Names:  Boy - "M"; Girl - "E"

Pregnancy Journal...#1

Went to the doctor again.  Got to hear that sweet sound of the heartbeat again.  Haven't been sick (vomiting) yet, however, I've had a lot of nausea.  I had some pains in my stomach (ligaments stretching) that really scared me.  I wasn't sure exactly what was going on.  The doctor suggested I begin to do exercises.  Walking and swimming were the 2 exercises he recommended.  He told me that it would be ok for me to use our Power Rider for 20 minutes 3 times a week.  (as long as I don't over do it and keep my heart rate under 140 beats per minute).  Boy, I don't like to exercise!
